SIESTA is an application I wrote to find bargains on eBay. It is written to eBay’s standards using the eBay API and has been certified by eBay’s own Compatible Application Check. With SIESTA you can find some incredible deals on eBay items, which you can then resell for a profit of 10%-50%.
History
As a part-time musician I have a weakness for music gear – guitars, drums, PA systems, etc. Of course I often look for my latest gear obsession on eBay. One day while searching for drum microphones I found a set of three (3) Sennheiser e604 mics listed with a Buy-It-Now price of just $160. These mics typically sell for $225-$250 used. I bought the mics (which have been excellent, BTW) and thought to myself “What if there was a way to continuously scan eBay for great deals like the drum mics I just found?”. Seems like a person could make a decent income finding these eBay bargains and reselling them at the typical selling price.
So I set to work building a program to do just that. My early attempts resulted in a program that was functional for my own personal use but not extensible enough to be used by the masses. After several revisions with the eBay API I finally came up with a version that passed eBay’s Compatible Application Check and could make millions of eBay queries everyday. Now others could use the application to make money as well.
Who It Is For
Anyone who wants to make additional income and has a full-time internet connection can use SIESTA. Business owners can find items to resell in their stores. Individuals can find items to resell on craigslist, myspace, eBay, or their own website. Depending on the number of items you enter in your SIESTA account you can profit anywhere from a few dollars to a few hundred dollars per day.
Why It Is Useful
As I mentioned above there are some great Buy-It-Now deals on eBay. However these great deals don’t come along often and when they do appear they are snapped up quickly. So in order to capitalize on these bargains you would have to manually search eBay for hours and hope to be “in the right place at the right time” to find a bargain.
SIESTA does this work for you. By entering many items to search for, you can cast a wide net and increase the chances of SIESTA finding bargain items. I, for example, currently have 48 items listed in my own SIESTA account and I am online about 6 hours per day. During this time SIESTA usually finds several items that I can resell for at least a 20% profit.
How It Works
It is really quite simple. Users enter information for items they want to find at siesta.possumstew.com, including search keywords, max. price, location, and other optional fields. SIESTA then goes to work scanning eBay every 3 minutes for items that match the users’ information. Once a matching item is found, SIESTA “beeps” and the item displays on the webpage for the user. At this point the user clicks on the item and completes the purchase on eBay.
Reselling Items
There a numerous outlets to resell the bargain items bought through SIESTA. My favorite is to list the items on my local craigslist. Craigslist charges no fees and because you are dealing with local buyers there usually aren’t shipping costs. I recently sold an Audix D6 kick drum mic on craigslist for $140 (SIESTA found this mic for me for $101, delivered). You may also wish to list items on your own website or myspace page. Really good deals can be relisted on eBay, but you will have to pay eBay’s listing fees which will cut into your profit margin. Of course business owners also have the benefit of being able to display the items in their shops.
